My Story

My name is Georgie and I’m honoured to be the 2025 recipient of The Laura Turnbull Bursary Award, provided by The College of Animal Welfare. This bursary was created in memory of Laura Turnbull — an incredibly inspiring veterinary nurse who dedicated her life to animal care and welfare, even while bravely battling breast cancer. Laura’s determination, compassion, and strength continue to inspire veterinary nurses like me. In her memory, and to support others affected by this disease, I’ve decided to use the platform this bursary has given me to raise funds for Cancer Research UK — a charity that works tirelessly to improve treatment, find cures, and bring hope to families affected by cancer. Next year, I’ll be returning to South Africa to take part in a wildlife veterinary programme — continuing my journey in veterinary medicine and conservation. And most importantly continuing Laura's legacy and passion.
