My Story
We are the Wrestling Appreciation Society (WAS). We started as a group of four University students just looking to make friends who share our passion for Wrestling. We quickly realised this was an opportunity to do something grander. Thus, the idea of DEADLINE was born. A wrestling show combining homegrown talent with some of the best rising stars in the UK independent scene. Going from never having stepped in the ring to show ready is no easy feat. It's going to take blood, sweat, tears and dedication. However, we have cultivated an incredibly driven collective of veteran and newer fans who've already shown their get-up-and-go attitude. As a society, we have started training with the wonderful people at NSAW (Non-Stop Action Wrestling) in Swinton, South Yorkshire. We specifically want to use this show to aid in the battle against cancer as it's a cause that personally resonates with us. The President of the society (Travis Cox) sadly lost his mother to cancer at a young age. However, finding wrestling at a dark point in his life helped give him something to aspire to through his months of heartache. Our Equalities Officer (Sammy Rice) has also had a close experience with cancer. Their mum was diagnosed during the pandemic and had to go through treatment. She is currently in remission, and at present, is making the journey back to normality. We want this show to be memorable. WAS can't think of a greater way to stand out than putting on a fantastic event for an outstanding cause. We at The Wrestling Appreciation Society would appreciate it if you could donate. Better yet, if you're available on Saturday, April 29th 2023, feel free to come down to the University of Huddersfield Sports Hall and check out our debut live show DEADLINE. This isn't just going to be a thrilling evening of wrestling, this is also a fight against cancer!
