Shipley to Leeds for love

Tue 8 Sep 2020 - Wed 30 Sep 2020

My Story

On the 19th September 2020 me and my Family, along with my sis-(not in law) Stephanie will be walking from Shipley to Leeds in the name of beating Cancer. We are all walking with the common goal of raising money for Cancer Research, we have our own reasons for doing this- our story is losing our Mother, Wife and Grandma Marjorie in May who sadly lost her battle with Bowel Cancer. Stephanie's story is similar she too lost her gran recently and her mum is currently fighting this terrible disease. The usual run is 5k we are walking just over double this taking the canal route.. Steph's Story: So we thought we'd f@*k$d cancer as they say. Mum was diagnosed in June 2019. She underwent a hell of a time with chemo but we were pleased that it did shrink the cancer in her oesophagus and she had surgery in December which removed it or so we thought. After a long hard slog and a strange Christmas we found out the awful news in June during lockdown that it was back and in an area where nothing could be done. Mum has undergone further chemo but this hideous disease has taken too much of a hold. The prognosis is between 5 and 10 months. Mum has two grandchildren she loves dearly they are all she ever wanted. Cancer is such a cruel disease. It doesn't care who it gets or what outlook they have or what family they have. Its time a cure was found so that people stop losing the ones they love. My mum and I bicker and argue but I'm not sure what I'll do without her. Our Story: Our Grandma, Marjorie Hill lost her battle in May 2020. This hit the family extremely hard after the numerous treatments and procedures she had been through over the past 18 months. This makes Cancer Research UK very personal to us, because this essential research could lead to a break-through meaning someone like our Grandma could receive the adequate treatment and survive their battle. As much as the last two years of her life were far from the best, she went in the most peaceful way possible - surrounded by her son, daughter and husband in her own home. Marjorie was the most generous person you’d know - she always prioritised everyone else. When we visited, she’d make sure everyone had a drink and at least something to eat, so much so she’d often forget to get herself something - not a huge thing but it shows what a considerate person she was. She always was interested in all of her grandchildren and nothing was ever too much. Please if you could donate it would make us really happy and make a difference.
