My Story
Last year, my lovely friend Jen lost her mum to cancer after a long brave fight. She is one of too many people to leave us too soon due to Cancer. I believe in the power of research to find ever more effective treatments, enabling more and more people to overcome cancer, making it something that can be recovered from. So when Jen decided to walk in memory of her mum to raise money for Cancer Research I decided I would like to walk with her. While I have only known her for a reasonably short time, I have come to understand what a giving and resourceful person she is. Life is not easy for anyone and we all have our battles, I have seen how she works every day to support her family and friends as well as manage her own challenges. Even through loosing her mum, an enormously difficult process for any of us, she has been there for so many. She has been working hard on her fitness, when we first met she found walking Glastonbury Tor a challenge, and now she has one long walk along the south west coast path under her belt and is taking on this huge 100k challenge. She has worked tirelessly to improve her fitness. We became friends by walking together, and it has been a pleasure to see her grow in confidence. 5 years ago I went on a similar fitness journey myself, having put on lots of weight and lost sight of my fitness I signed up to the Three Peaks as motivation to pull myself together. I re-found a love of walking and remembered it’s healing power. As such I am honoured to have been a part of Jen’s journey and wanted to walk with her to celebrate this. I know that her mum would be so proud of her for daring to dream and working to achieve this massive walk demonstrating how far she has come. No matter what the goal or where you start, you can achieve it with commitment.. It will be an honour to train for and walk this walk with her.
