Vikki's Race for Life

I'm taking part in the Chester Race for Life 5k to raise money for Cancer Research because in early 2017 both my Dad and Sister were diagnosed with cancer. To have one member of your family living with cancer is difficult enough but having two at the same time was totally devastating. My Dad has prostate cancer and has undergone brachytherapy, radiotherapy and hormone therapy and is now on the road to recovery. However, for my sister Anita, it’s a very different story. Anita has advanced breast cancer which had already spread to her bones when she was diagnosed. For her, the last 2 years have involved long, tiring visits to The Christie Hospital every 3 weeks for treatment. She's endured chemotherapy, radiotherapy, antibody treatment and numerous tests and scans. Just before Christmas we found out that the cancer had spread wider and was now in her liver and lungs and at the beginning of this year she commenced on a new combined targeted therapy and chemotherapy treatment. Throughout this arduous journey Anita’s strength and courage has been absolutely amazing and she has never given up despite everything that has been thrown at her. She’s truly inspirational and a lovely, kind, beautiful sister and friend. Anita is 50 in June so we'll be celebrating in style and having plenty of fun and laughter!!! ;) All Race for Life sponsorship goes towards Cancer Research UK’s lifesaving work, funding laboratories, tests and treatments of all 200 types of cancer.
