My Story
This year I will be taking part in Race for Life with my friend Tara and her little girl Kaydee. Kaydee was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in November 2016 at just 4 years old. She has been undergoing Chemotherapy and continues to have good days and bad days. It’s just incredible how children can go through these things and stay so strong. It’s horrible how they have to have their childhood affected in this way though; spending time in hospital whilst their friends are at home playing or being stuck in doors watching other children play outside. They have to go through the treatments, the pain and constantly feeling unwell; their lives are forever affected. But on a positive note, it makes them stronger than they ever knew they could be and more compassionate than you thought possible for a child. Cancer is so common these days I, like many of us, have had a few people close to me go through it. Thanks to ongoing research, the lives of people with cancer are improving all the time. Research is helping people, helping to prevent, treat and fight cancer. I can’t think of a better cause to donate to, it affects us all in some way. I wish I could have been there for my friend more when she was going through this with her little girl. Her and her family have been so strong.
