Cancer Research is a charity close to my heart because of their trails and Mum benefitted from these. They also offered really amazing support, especially her nurse, Daniel. Only two years ago, Mum came to watch me race and cheer me on. I’ve realised now that’s what she was: my own personal cheerleader. The person who gave me that encouragement when I doubted myself; the person I’d call when I needed advice and the person who would be honest with me. It has been unbelievably hard to not have Mum near now.... sometimes it’s like an organ is missing or a limb is somehow not there... other times it’s like someone has stabbed me. Mum was so strong and brave. I love that she laughed her way through life and even when things were extremely hard, she would make a joke and smile. I want to learn from her amazing example, live life to the full and make her proud. I miss her so many times every day. I know that this research can’t help her now, but it can help another daughter avoid this pain.
