Vicky's Race for Life
Maidstone Pretty Muddy 5k 2019
Sun 7 Jul 2019 - Sun 7 Jul 2019
My 38 year old husband Adam, was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma last year, which is currently a treatable but sadly incurable form of bone cancer. Current position: We have been told by Adams consultant today (09-07-19) that if he doesn't have the maintenance drugs for the full two years, then he probably won't benefit from from the double remission time that he might have had. Sadly the drugs aren't available on NHS, his insurance company will only cover them for 8 months and at 5.5k per month it's not possible for us to self fund - so now our only hope is to find a cure for his shitty type of cancer and fast. So any donations to cancer research in the hope it helps would be appreciated x Diagnosis: Adam had been suffering with pain in his ribs and chest for 18 months prior to diagnosis. He went to his GP on numerous occasions complaining of pain and after 15 months they finally referred him to a specialist - but still, no-one had a clue what was wrong with him. Until one day, he stood up, his vertebrae collapsed and his spine fractured. It was only at this point they truly started investigating what was wrong with him and then we got the diagnosis neither of us ever expected. I have decided to take part in a Race for Life Pretty Muddy to raise much needed funds to support the essential research required to find a cure for the cancer Adam has and all of the other cancers out there. I am hopeful that the more research there is, will also give better opportunity for earlier diagnosis with this rare type of cancer. Adam not only had to fight the cancer, but due to the late diagnosis also had to deal with the unnecessary pain of having a fractured spine, which required him to wear an uncomfortable brace for 3 months. I am hopeful that with more awareness, knowledge and research of this type of cancer, people can be diagnosed earlier without having to suffer the immense pain of fractured bones at the same time as dealing with a cancer diagnosis and treatment. 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.
