I am in my fifth year post treatment for one of the most deadly forms of Cancer - Oesophageal - a great milestone and hopefully many more to follow! In these five years I have seen both my children meet and marry their spouses, have been in steadily improving health and as a bonus granted a fuller appreciation of all the wonderful experiences of the natural world and companionship of friends, family, colleagues and animals. My recovery most definitely would not have been possible without the advances in medicines and operative techniques brought about through decades of costly research. And of course thank you to 'My' team at Leicester Royal Infirmary led by my surgeon Professor Bowrey.

Consistent progress is being made but improvements to technology and ground-breaking work offer new opportunities to find different ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer and improve survival rates even further.
