Trudi's Race for Life

This time last year I was being treated for Triple Negative Breast Cancer and I couldn't get to the top of the house without having to sit down for a breather. Now I am a runner - or so Michael Johnson tells me on my Couch to 5K motivational app. I'm not sure that breaking into a sulky shuffle on Michael's instructions really does make me a runner, but without the scans, the chemo, the radiotherapy and the support that I received last year, I would be in a very different place right now and it wouldn't involve running around Preston Park. So, as a "runner", I have signed up for Race for Life which will involve running 5K around Stanmer Park. Anyone who has known me will appreciate the enormity of this since I have steadfastly avoided any sort of running for my whole life. I'm asking for money - obviously! For the research, for the ongoing care and to support all the work being done in the search for targeted Cancer treatments. On the way I'd like to raise awareness of a particular form of Breast Cancer - Triple Negative - which at the moment has no long-term preventative drugs to take at the end of radiotherapy. It's an aggressive cancer that needs more work and more funding and I'm hoping a little bit of my effort can contribute to that. Sadly 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with some form of cancer in their lifetime.
