Clean Shave on my late grandads birth date 05/10/18, sponsered by 'The Works Stores' and my colleges of over 9 years!
In memory of
Frederick McNamara
5th Oct 1939 - 26th Jul 2008
2018 marks the 10th anniversary of my late granddad, 'Frederick McNamara’, defeat to bowel cancer, and in his memory I am fundraising and taking part in an ‘Brave the Shave’ event, with the ambition to raise £1000 for our charity partner ‘Cancer Research UK’ by 05/10/18, the day of the shave and my granddads birthday. He was an inspirational, hardworking man and leader, with over 30 years’ service in the ‘British Army’, beginning his military carrier as mere ‘Private’ (the lowest military rank) and through nothing but sheer hard work & determination rose the rank of ‘Warrant Officer CLASS 1’ (WO1 being the highest military rank achievable by this path and comparable to ‘Major’) who inspired me to be the man I am today, (Starting my career at ‘The Works Stores’ as a ‘Supervisor’ in 2009 and armed with only; that same hard work & determination, find myself in the present role). “Winner’s make it happen, losers let it happen” To do this I will be going clean shaven, live on Facebook, on what would have been my late granddads 79th birthday, for the first time in 16 years! This might not seem a massive sacrifice or challenge to most, but It is to me! I am very precious about my beard and will feel incredibly self-conscious without it, dreading it is an understatement! I grew and maintained a beard from the age of 16 until now, 12 years later, because I suffered badly with acne all my life and having a beard helped me to be more confident in myself and appearance. I call for the support of my work, colleges and friends of over 9 years at 'The Works Stores' to help me reach my target of £1000, for 05/10/18, as part of my role at 'The Works Stores' I have had the privilege; to meet & work alongside hundreds of colleges, to be involved in the opening/re-fitting of over 130 stores in the business and supporting many more. So I ask 'YOU' my colleges and friends, to support my granddads memory, to help win his last battle, the greatest battle, and beat cancer. Finally; In addition to shaving my beloved beard.... IF the business/our CEO Kevin Keaney double my final fundraising total reached on 05/10/18.... I will shave my entire head too!!

Bowel cancer
Over the past 40 years there's been dramatic progress in tackling bowel cancer and half of people diagnosed will now survive for at least 10 years. But with bowel cancer still claiming around 43 lives each day, more research still needs to be done. Help Cancer Research UK find new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat the disease.
