My Story
Just over a year ago my wonderful Dad lost a short but brave battle with cancer after being diagnosed with a Cholangiocarcinoma , a cancer of the glands lining the bile ducts. Because of its "hidden location" and the fact it is very rare, it tends to be diagnosed too late for surgery to be an option. Pancreatic Cancer is similar in many ways and because it doesn't usually give rise to any signs or symptoms in the early stages, it's often diagnosed so late reducing the chances of being able to kick it hence the survival rate is only 4% These are horrendous diseases , they destroy families and the research is drastically underfunded. Despite my natural and sensible aversion to walking long distances, I was easily persuaded to sign up for the Shine Night Walk in London on 23rd September 2017 . Whilst I'm conscious of the blisters and the achey muscles walking 26.2 miles will undoubtedly bring it's certainly nothing in comparison to the pain and suffering my Dad and thousands of others around the world had and have to endure as they fight the disease . Any donation, no matter how small it may seem will be very much appreciated and it will make every step feel a little easier. Please help me raise money in memory of my Dad, Robert Siddons, loved and missed by so many and to try and make a difference in fighting Cancer . Each year Cancer Research UK’s scientists get closer to beating cancer, and they’ve helped double survival rates in the last 40 years. But we can’t stop there. Only with our continued support can they turn this research into breakthroughs that save millions of lives.
