My Story

its been almost 18 months since I was first diagnosed with cancer. Last year I took part in race for life because it was something I felt I Needed to do. No one can prepare you for the turmoil it brings to not just the person diagnosed with cancer but the people you love that surround you. It’s not just your fight, it becomes their fight too. In my case it was their fight before it became mine. I couldn’t or wouldn’t accept the fact I had cancer, it was a word that wouldn’t register or sink in with me. Why was I kept being told to “slow down” “rest” I felt fine, people said I looked fine so I must be fine, Right ? Except the people closest to me could see different, I couldn’t see the cracks that had appeared because I was too Busy fighting against them, and in denial for so long. It didn’t matter how hard the “shock treatment “ was used I still Knew best and did my utmost to push them away. Finally, thankfully there was a day I pushed someone too far and the realisation started to sink in. That day I felt I gave up the fight, and was forced to give in. But over the last few months I suddenly realised there was a difference giving in and accepting you have cancer is different to giving up and fighting it. Your allowed to have emotions and not be ok, I brought my kids up never be afraid to show your emotions, it doesn’t make them Any less of a person. Yet I asked recently was it ok to feel afraid sometimes? I was told of course. Why did I need to feel strong all the time,.., This year I feel I WANT to do race for life for the families and people closest to those diagnosed With cancer that suffer just as Much if not more, through people like me putting them through it. We can only be strong if we beat and find a cure together.., Thank you for your continued support and my apologies for being s nightmare ❤️
