I’m raising as much as I can to beat cancer

My Story

I've beaten cancer twice and yet I've only had it once! When my mum, nana, and great-grandma all tragically died in their early fifties from ovarian cancer, I wondered not if, but when I'd be next. Then I tested positive for the faulty cancer gene known as BRCA1. This meant that I had up to an 85% chance of getting breast cancer and a 60% chance of getting ovarian cancer. With a little boy to think about, I made the agonising choice to have healthy parts of my body amputated purely as prevention - the very parts that define me as a woman. So then, when in April of this year, I was diagnosed with malignant bowel cancer, I wanted to and did, laugh at the irony. As well as shedding a tear of course! Following major surgery I am now cancer free! I've been very lucky and owe my life to research, which is why I'm fundraising for Cancer Research UK. There’s no time to lose! Thank you! x

CAUSE

Ovarian cancer

Ovarian cancer is the fifth most common cancer in UK women, with more than 130 women every week told that they have the disease. It is often not diagnosed until it has spread, making it harder to treat. Help Cancer Research UK find new ways to detect ovarian cancer earlier and find better treatments.
