My Story
Friday 25th April is the Bobby Moore Fund's annual #FootballShirtFriday, helping to raise funds for Cancer Research UK to tackle bowel cancer. I've been a fervent supporter of this occasion for the last few years, initially in support of my dad following his bowel cancer diagnosis in 2019, throughout his journey in the years that followed, and then in his memory following his death in 2023. I also took part in a month-long keepy uppy challenge in 2022, raising £500 for the Fund. This year, its an occasion that hits differently as I myself am now going through my own bowel cancer journey. Following diagnosis in November, I have been undergoing a gruelling course of treatment to beat the disease, and #FootballShirtFriday arrives this year a few days ahead of my final course of chemotherapy. Through this difficult time, I have been filled with immense gratitude for everyone who has helped me through it, from the amazing NHS staff who have provided world class care at every turn, to the pioneering scientists and researchers who have done so much to develop new, innovative treatments that have significantly improved the bowel cancer survival rate. To show my appreciation for all those involved in the battle against bowel cancer, I'd love any friends, followers or acquaintances to join me in donning their favourite football shirts, on Friday 25th April. All you will need to do is pop on the shirt of your choice, and share a selfie on social media using #footballshirtfriday. Finally, if you could donate a fiver (or whatever you can) to the Bobby Moore Fund via this page and share the link, that would be marvellous too. 100% of the money raised will go towards funding pioneering bowel cancer research, and helping people like me to face up to this disease with hope and optimism for a full recovery. Thanks, as ever, to all those who have shown such kindness, compassion and understanding through this incredibly challenging period in my life. Better days are ahead. You know they are. They really are.
