I'm walking 10,000 steps every day this March for Cancer Research UK.

The last time I completed this challenge was after I was diagnosed, but before I had chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant for mantle cell lymphoma. My life-saving treatment was successful because of research carried out into this and other cancers, in part funded by Cancer Research UK.

After my wife's diagnosis of ovarian cancer last Easter and treatment, Jane is now benefiting from a newly available drug, Olaparib. Again, this drug and the hope that it brings wouldn't have happened without research.

But research costs money.

So I'm doing this challenge again, in part to improve my fitness, in part to say f*** you cancer, but mostly to raise some more funds for this vital research.

If you can spare a couple of pounds, that would be fantastic. If not, please just cheer me on as I wander around trying my best not to bump into too many people, animals and inanimate objects.

Thank you.

So, hello again! With shielding being paused from today, I'm on my way to completing the remaining 19 days of this challenge from March. (I started yesterday though, because gnu needed an MoT and I decided to go for a walk, rather than wait around the garage). So far so good - 10,000+ steps achieved yesterday along the Spondon Linear Park (the old Derby canal route) and today on the Great Northern Greenway. Cancer charities have been heavily affected by COVID-19, but if you'd like to sponsor someone now, may I suggest Jane's arsedrag for ovarian cancer research? Details here:

Sadly it looks as if the medical advice I've received today means that I'm going to have to put this attempt on hold. I will complete the remaining 19 days of the challenge as soon as I can. Here's my achievement so far: 12 days, 160,016 steps, an average of 13,335 steps per day. Stay safe all.

End of the first week. 104, 873 steps - an average of 14,982 steps a day. I may need some new shoes afterwards at this rate!
