My Story

Hi everyone I will upload pictures every time I go on a cycle so you guys can keep updated on my progress. Thank you for supporting. I have been fundraising for Bridgwater & District friends of Cancer Research Uk for about 6 years now. I started of doing with doing a 30 mile bike ride in 2015 for my godfather chicken (Robin) who passed away of cancer in December 2013. Since then I have helped the committee with our events such as; bingos, collections, children’s parties, Christmas bazaar, stalls at events and the list goes on. I had also completed an abseil in 2017 to fundraise for them; that was definitely out my comfort zone as I’m scared of heights but I done it and was so proud of myself after! So this is my next big challenge to get some funds in. With Covid 19 we haven’t been able to do our normal fundraising events so I’m hoping this is the next best thing to be able to help. We’re not just a committee, we are a fundraising family... Together we will beat cancer sooner. We are always looking for new volunteers so if you’re interested please get in touch with the team. We are the Bridgwater & District Friends of Cancer Research UK, a small but thriving group of local volunteers, dedicated to raising money for lifesaving research into cancer. The Districts of Sedgemoor and Bridgwater are covered by our group, who meet monthly and organise functions and collections which raise money to fund research. The Group has raised over £1million for Cancer Research UK since it was formed. The important milestone of £500,000 was reached in 2011 and we have raised staggering amounts annually since then. This was only possible with the help of our volunteers, the generosity and support of local businesses, individuals and the local community. In 2010 we were the very proud recipients of a Cancer Research UK ‘Flame of Hope’ award, which is only given to the most exceptional volunteers, who have shown outstanding dedication. It was lovely to be recognised by Cancer Research UK for our efforts and seven years later (2017) we were overflowing with pride as we were once again honoured with a Flame of Hope Award. Types of events we organise & support: The Bridgwater Half Marathon |The Great Somerset Duck Race | SedgePAW Dog Show | Fashion Show | Christmas & Easter Bingos | Pig Roasts / Live Music Events | Christmas Collection Floats | Raffles | Fun Days & Fetes | Tombolas & Table Top Sales | Christmas Bazaar | Stewarding & Car Parking for Larger Events | Collections and much more!! As an official Cancer Research UK local group we also act as ambassadors for the charity in collecting donations from local people, supporting their fundraising events and acknowledging their hard work and kind donations with press releases, cheque presentations and certificates etc.
