My Story
Cancer Research UK is an amazing charity and a worthwhile cause. We are raising money through our school's Race for Life to support this and two other charities who have had an direct impact on one of our sixth form students: Luke Barter Luke's mum says: "As a family we support cancer research and two specific charities who have been there for Luke. The Brain Tumour Charity's current research will directly impact the treatment that children will receive in the future for Luke's particular tumour. Until now the treatment has not changed in the last forty years. Dreamflight took Luke away on an amazing holiday in 2018 to Florida for ten days of absolute VIP treatment. Every year they take 192 children from across the country on this experience of a lifetime and they are just a fabulous group of doctors, nurses and British Airways flight crew who volunteer to take them. I still have contact with the team who took Luke." The Brain Tumour Charity is the world's leading brain tumour charity and the largest dedicated funder of research into brain tumours globally. Committed to saving and improving lives, we're moving further, faster to help every single person affected by a brain tumour. We're set on finding new treatments, offering the highest level of support and driving urgent change. And we're doing it right now. Because we understand that when you, or someone you love, is diagnosed with a brain tumour – a cure really can't wait. Dreamflight is a UK charity that takes children with a serious illness or disability on their holiday of a lifetime to Orlando. The experience can be life-changing and gives young people an opportunity to do something that medicine can’t: discover independence, confidence and a new outlook.
