My Story
Last December I was chatting to another member in a regular gym class & she noticed a lump and said I should get it checked out…. In January I was diagnosed with Thyroid cancer and from then on my gym family and group exercise classes were an incredible support & as important to me as my NHS treatment. I had a few weeks off after surgery in March, then started back gently doing classes. My Thorncliffe friendships, plus exercise, plus being able to be with people without talking while my voice recovered, all helped with the mental and physical challenges of treatment . I’ll forever be grateful to the members, instructors and staff who were so caring, supportive and thoughtful during my toughest times. On 30th November we’ll have a special day of 6 Les Mills classes, so we can celebrate our incredible Thorncliffe community and raise money for Cancer Research. It’s rave themed because it’s me, and as a personal challenge myself, Fran W, Emma C, Joanne J, Nat R, Claire M, Marianne, Gemma H, Lisa G & Kathryn G are doing all 6 classes 😅 anyone else want to join us?! But mainly it’s a day for us to come together to Stand Up 2 Cancer (or burpee, lift, kick, balance, tuck jump and plank 2 cancer!) and raise some money for a great cause.
