My Story

Hi, my name is Thomas Chawner, I am raising money on behalf of my little brother Martin Chawner who passed away on 9th November 2022, following his battle with cancer. Martin left behind his three children, his daughters Daniel and Toni, and his son Steven who miss him so much. For those who didn’t know Martin he was funny, spontaneous, daring, crazy, loving and selfless, these are just a few words out of the many that come to mind. To give you an insight of Martin as a person, he would randomly show up at our family home, Stella’s in hand and make our day by telling jokes, getting the family out, sharing memories and just being crazy and mostly importantly making us laugh and smile. One time he even climbed a fence to get my son a ball even though he ended up breaking his leg, he was just happy to get the ball and see my son smile. Martin was a huge football fan supporting Rangers FC and Liverpool, even though I am a Celtic fan myself lol…we may not have seen eye to eye with football teams but the love never faded. Martin played a huge part in many lives and those memories will last forever, but who says more memories can’t be made in his honour. So in his memory, we are looking to raise as much money as we can by hosting a charity football match, where the money will be donated to Cancer Research. This is the second charity football match in Martins name and we hope to continue this for many years. This game will take place on Saturday 16th May at 2:00pm. Located at the Tecsoc Stadium, IG6 1NB. Please come down if you can and show your love and support.
