My Story

Business Beats Cancer Belfast are embarking on a year-long fundraising challenge to raise much-needed funds to support Cancer Research UK in its bid to beat cancer sooner. The Business Beats Cancer committee was set up in 2018 and is run by a dedicated group of 14 local businesspeople from a range of professions who are determined to fight Northern Ireland’s biggest killer by raising funds for life-saving research. As part of the novel ‘30 Dozen Challenge’, 12 of the group’s board members will each commit to completing 30 minutes of exercise every day for a month. Some will do it with support from colleagues, family or friends, while others will go it alone. Regardless, the combined effort of the group is expected to exceed a massive 10,950 minutes of exercise and around 1.5million steps. The challenge kicked off on 1 July by Bowel cancer survivor and board member, Anna Connor, a mum of three from Lisburn. Supported by colleagues at Belfast PR, marketing and events agency, MCE, family and friends, Anna got the challenge off to a running start. Board colleagues, Stephen Allen, Darren Barbour, Gary Davidson, Ciara Fulton, Jayne Gallagher, Lisa Keys, Nicola Ledlie, Mary-Jo McCabe, Orla McGreevy, Josh Oliver, Gemma Payne, Mark Rooney and Julie Sherlock are each taking their turn throughout 2020 and 2021 to complete this challenge.
