Today marks the first day of thyroid cancer month , a cancer that has affected me personally and those closest to me. April 2021 marked the start of my battle with thyroid cancer. My self, family and friends have all been affected by cancer as I’m sure yourself reading this can also relate to . Nothing prepares you for the moment you get told it’s cancer . Automatically you have 100’s of scenarios running through your head and instead of worrying about yourself you find yourself worrying about your family. This isn’t a fight for you to fight on your own , this is a time when you need the support of your loved ones . This is a time to fight together for everyone that’s ever suffered cancer. This is a battle that you are adamant to beat head on . The 15th May was the day I underwent a Total Thyroidectomy (removal of my thyroid) and a left neck dissection removing 29 lymph nodes . The worry of how my body would adapt , how this would affect my young daughter me not being at home. But with the support of my NHS cancer nurse & a brilliant team of surgeons I was discharged . This has been a very personal journey for myself and not one that I’ve chose to share before today . But after receiving my radiotherapy Iodine treatment in July 2021 . I know feel like I am on the road to recovery and I want to do my part in supporting cancer research and to give back , a personal thank you for the support and treatment I have received. I am and want to be kicking cancers ass , so I’ve taking the jump and signed myself up for a 10k on the 25th of September to raise money for cancer research uk. So for everyone affected by cancer , receiving on going treatment , or would like to get involved in honour of a loved one ❤️ I’m asking for your help, every little helps . Thank you for reading my story Susan X
