My Story
My mum (Carly’s nan) was diagnosed with womb cancer almost 2yrs ago. She had a hysterectomy, followed by several weeks of radiotherapy and was given the all clear. In February this year a lump developed on her neck. Several tests and a few weeks later, she has sadly been diagnosed with secondary cancer. Her treatment will consist of 6 sessions of three weekly intravenous chemotherapy, each session lasting around 7hrs - the first of which she received almost 2 weeks ago which has made her quite poorly. The doctors and nurses have been amazing and although it’s very sad to see mum affected this way, both she and my family can’t stress enough how grateful we are for her original treatment to beat cancer and the treatment she’s currently having to try and make her better. Without fund raising, which enables research and subsequently more treatments to beat cancer, many people including my dear mum may not be here to fight another day. Sadly my dad passed away in 2006 at just 66yrs of age having lost his battle with prostrate cancer.....since then treatments have advanced and are more effective, with more people beating cancer, but only because of fundraising events such as these. Sadly cancer has also hit our extended family, with my second daughter’s 18yr old step-daughter continuing with her long fight to be clear of this nasty disease. Fair to say my family have had enough of cancer attacking our loved ones and is why myself and Carly are taking part in this walking marathon on Saturday, which looks to be challenging with another hot day forecast! But we are passionate about raising money (no matter how little) to help other sufferers and their families. Cancer is happening right now. 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.
