Staff at Two Mile Hill are doing Race For Life on behalf of two Y2 boys - Thomas (L) and Dexter.

My Story

Last year, staff, parents and pupils at Two Mile Hill Primary School were shocked to hear that not one, but two of our young pupils had been diagnosed with cancer. Thomas's Story Thomas's mum says "On 25th June 2016 Thomas went for a routine eye test. There they found that the optical nerves in both eyes were inflamed, so we went to the children's hospital. There they did a CT scan and it was discovered Thomas had a brain tumour. We were admitted, then 4 days later Thomas had his operation which took 10 hrs, he recovered quickly. Then we were given the news it was cancerous a choroid plexus carcinoma, this was a grade 3 out of 4 tumour and very rare. He then had 2 rounds of chemo 6 weeks of radiotherapy and then another 4 rounds of chemo. Thomas has also had many blood transfusions and platelets." Mum says "Thomas is amazing and took everything on his stride and recovered so quickly." Thomas will now have monthly checks. In March Thomas was declared cancer free!! We wish Thomas all the best for his recovery. X Dexter's Story On 27th October, 2016, the Leibow family's normal life was torn apart when their 7 year old son, Dexter, was diagnosed with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma. As an example of Dexters how extensive his treatment is, Dexter is given a bead for every treatment that he has had so far in hospital, these are given for all kinds of things, e.g. every time blood is taken, med changes, overnight stays chemo, physio visits, loosing hair, any tests, mobility challenges, dressing changes all kinds. Dexter has been given 570 of these beads!!! Incredible! He is currently in hospital again, for at least 5 weeks of surgery and chemo. Dexter and his family are facing their huge daily challenges with courage, stength and positivity. We wish them all the best with Dexter's treatment at the Bristol Children's Hospital, where, Dexter's mum reports, he is being very well looked after! We wanted to raise money on behalf of Dexter and Thomas, to show our support for these two brave little superheroes! 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.
