My Story
Twin rowers with different academic backgrounds but recently a common work place - the Northern Institute of Cancer Research (NICR), with help from their colleagues take on Cancer Research UKs 'The Great Row'. Vicky a full time PhD student in the NICR and Kat a full time Engineering PhD student with part of the PhD leading to work in the NICR meant that this challenge was perfect! Therefore, a group of cancer researchers from the NICR (Team Vicky) have decided to ditch their lab coats and don their sports gear to race against a rival team of Engineers from Newcastle University (Team Kat). The two teams are going to battle it out over a grueling 42 km side by side race on the rowing machines, all rowing for one cause: to help fund the life-saving work conducted by cancer research. Devastatingly, 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. But advances in science have put cures within our grasp. Please support us!! Many of the team have never sat on a rowing machine before, but are looking forwards to the challenge. What could be more fun than a bunch of scientists/engineers battling it out! We will be rowing on Tuesday 26th Feb.
