My Story

This year I will be running the virtual Race For Life, after a truly devastating year for so many people I felt it was right to do something and give back. I have chosen to run for Cancer Research UK as this is a charity that I hold very close to my heart and know many other people who do. After seeing so many people close to me suffer the brutality of cancer I know now is a time to do something in return. I am running in memory of my beautiful Nana Jean who the family sadly lost 25 years ago, and although I never had the privilege of meeting her, I hold her very close to my heart and know the rest of the family do too. She was diagnosed with oesophagus cancer at the very young age of 49 and sadly passed away only 7 months later, leaving behind her amazing son Ian(my dad) at the young age of 17, and her granddaughter(my sister) Jade, at the age of 18 months. Nana Jean was the most beautiful of souls and cared for everyone with her all, she is truly missed by all and did not deserve to be taken from us so young! I am also running in memory of my grandads beautiful wife Barbra, who was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer and after a strong fight with chemotherapy sadly passed away in October 2019, leaving behind her amazing husband, Alan(my grandad), gorgeous daughter Chantel(my mum) and grandson Ben(my brother). Babs was loved and cherished by many and not a day goes by where we don't think of her. Lastly I'd like to mention the wonderful Jackie Rigby, who lost her long hard fought battle to cancer in November 2020. Jackie was first diagnosed with cancer back in 2014, she was an absolute warrior and refused to let it beat her. After battling through for 6 an a half years, she sadly passed away in November, right in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. Jackie was a beautiful soul and loved by all and I know the devastation of her loss was felt by many, her family, friends and throughout the hometown. I will be running the 5km virtual race for life on April 24th, but also i am going to be running a total of 50km between April 1st and April 23rd all to raise money, show my respect for this amazing charity and in memory of these three amazing women. I will be linking my fitbit and strava to this page so as of April 1st everyone will be able to see my progress! Any donations at all all are greatly appreciated!
