As a family, we have lost too many people we love to cancer. It is as an aggressive and cruel disease. Last month, the patriarch of our family, David, lost his battle to lung cancer. A few years before that we lost Fraser and before that we lost dear Maggie who left her young babies too soon. We miss them all. One in two people will now be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lives but survival rates are improving. Each year scientists get closer to beating cancer, and they’ve helped double survival rates in the last 40 years. But we can’t stop there. On Saturday 23rd September starting at 9.30pm, I will begin my walk of 26.2 miles around the streets of London. My thoughts: Mile 6: yikes, I am already a bit sore... Mile 9: a third of the way - cup of tea and pastry really helped Mile 11: what?! Only mile 11? ? Mile 12-17: a blur of pain and coughing - thank you Sukhjit for keeping me going Mile 18: what on earth was I thinking signing up for this? I should've just done a coffee morning!! Mile 19.5: where is that silly 20 mile marker ?(still coughing) Mile 21: ahh, that's better....pain killers taken and start to work Mile 22: I can do this. I will do this....c'mon! Mile 26: who added the 0.2 miles at the end? Was that really necessary?! Mile 26.2: I can't believe I did....?
