In March 2020, just as we were all coming to terms with the fact we were in a pandemic that appeared out of nowhere, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. This was the most horrific shock following on from a very difficult previous year and overnight our lives were turned upside down. Thanks to research, my treatment meant that my cancer was curative. I had almost immediate surgery followed by radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Immunotherapy followed and that will be completed at the end of April 2021. I consider myself extremely fortunate and hope that my treatment will stand me in good stead for the future. This journey has meant I have met so many other cancer patients, most of whom continue to live full lives because of treatment options now available. None of this would be possible without research. There are so many cancers for which appropriate treatment is still waiting to be found. Indeed the cancer that took my own Mum 18 years ago still has a very long way to go in terms of treatment options. On the back of this, my son Joseph and I decided we would take part in this fundraiser as I'd like to find a way to give at least something back to those who have worked so hard to ensure that people like me have a chance to survive. I am so grateful for any donation, however small, that you are able to give. Thank you!
