My Story
Hello You, Thank you so much for visiting my fundraising page. If you're here, it's likely you've received or seen my 'Advice for Joyful Living - IT'S FUN, THAT'S WHY' art, co-created with the wonderful Anthony Burrill. To explain... A few months ago, I decided that I wanted to round out 2023 and kick start the next one in a positive, inspiring way, because 2023 was a devastatingly tough year with the loss of my incredible mum. Thankfully, I was fortunate enough to have people in my life who helped me through and still do, from the smallest of gestures to the biggest of moments. In return, I can think of nothing more beautiful than to pass on what my mum taught me - a joyful approach to life. To inspire others to inspire others. To lean into the lighter side of life. To follow your gut. To see and be joy in the everyday. To laugh. To pick the brighter colour. To be unapologetically you. To follow your imagination. To eat dessert. To give yourself a goddamn break. As such, I knew I wanted to achieve two things through doing this; 1) give something back to everyone who helped me, and 2) spread a little joy in the world, inspired by my mum. If I can raise money for the ruthless disease that is Cancer whilst doing so, then brilliant. I decided I’d create a piece of art and I reached out to one of my favourite artists, Anthony Burrill, whose ‘WORK HARD & BE NICE TO PEOPLE’ screen print proudly hangs in my living room, bought for me by my parents for my 30th birthday. In a joyful moment of my own, Anthony agreed to helping me and the journey began, something I will be forever grateful for. And here we are. I know I’m not alone in experiencing these pivotal moments in life that challenge and evolve us, and whilst life can feel hard at times, know it can also be the most amazing thing. You don’t always need a reason to do something that will ultimately bring you happiness, my mum certainly didn’t, but if you do, it can simply be - IT’S FUN, THAT’S WHY. That’s reason enough. I hope 2023 brought you some amazing moments and that 2024 brings you even more. If those challenges do come your way, I hope this art is an ever-present reminder of the brighter side of things and encouragement to go after it when you need it. So here’s to a life of joyful living, here’s to you and here’s to my mum for continuing to radiate her positivity around the world. Thank you so much for your donation. With all my love & gratitude, Suz - Creator Maker x
