Cancer is happening right now, which is why I’m raising money right now for Cancer Research UK. There’s no time to lose! This year has been a pretty amazing one, with many highs and a few lows. Last summer I celebrated my 50th Birthday and decided that it was time to mark the occasion by celebrating every month. So now I have just celebrated my 51st Birthday and I can happily say, I have achieved my goals. So, less than 20 weeks ago after seeing a post on Facebook from my local running club Toton Road Runners (TRR), who in a moment of madness posted to see if there was any interest in a couch to 1/2 marathon group! I decided to start running and train for the Ikano Robin Hood Half Marathon with them. There was plenty of interest and now me and several friends new and old have been training for this amazing event and raising lots of money for worthwhile charities. 18 Months ago a friend and neighbour received the devastating news that she had Cancer. This was on her birthday. My friend was the most positive person you would meet and she fought every single day to try and beat this awful disease. Unfortunately 15 months later she lost her brave fight, she was just 48 years old. I really wanted to tell her and her gorgeous family that I had started this running journey to raise money for Cancer Research and to help others in the future. I never did find the right moment to tell them. All my friends and family know I am doing this and who it is for. When the training gets tough I just tell myself that this is for Jo and all the others that are affected and it gets me through.
