My Story
A team from the NHS Confederation will be taking part in the Race for Life in Leeds next month. All money raised in sponsorship and participation fees will go to Cancer Research UK to help fund scientists, doctors and nurses to help beat cancer sooner. For us this cause is more important than ever, as Ruth Warden from the Development and Employment team explains: ‘On 3 June I’m doing the Race for Life with a group of amazing work colleagues. This year it has special meaning for me. In February I received a breast cancer diagnosis. Currently my condition is treatable but not curable. I’m not sure if the treatment I’m on now will work, only time will tell. I’m fortunate that if it doesn’t then there are other treatments, but one day the options will run out, or the cancer will move quicker or be more devious than the medicines designed to try to outwit it. That’s why me and so many others are relying on the research that this event supports. The clever people in labs with brains and imaginations far better than mine need the funds to keep finding new ways to tackle this disease. I can’t run this year, I’m going to walk.
