Himani is a girl from a middle class family. She did her MBA and was working in Somany Ceramics Ltd. Noida. Unfortunately on the month of May 2018 she was diagnosed with AML a type of blood cancer. Her initial treatment started at AIIMS, new Delhi where after all the tests and two doses of chemotherapy, she went into sceptic shock. Within no time she was admitted to Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurugram. At Fortis the doctor's response was that she has very thin chances of surviving as the infection has spread to multiple organs. She remained in ICU for three days and with god's grace she was stable. Since then she is undergoing treatment at Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurugram. She has received two full cycles of chemotherapy and various other antibiotics and drugs and is doing pretty well. In latest biopsy report she was in remission but with residual disease. For getting completely cured she needs Bone Marrow Transplant. The estimated expenses for her treatment till now have climbed Rs. 20,00000. The treatment cost consists of : Treatment for infection, Chemotherapy, Recurrent hospitalization charges, Platelets and Blood transfusion every second day. Now she is going to receive Bone Marrow Transplant. Her donor is her younger brother Dinesh Joshi. The match is only 50% hence the cost of the transplant is going to be high. Moreover she will receive treatment for infections and regular blood and platelet transfusion. After bone marrow transplant she will receive post transplant care for six months. The treatment duration is very long and thus, the treatment expenses are going to be very high. Only for the bone marrow transplant the estimate given by doctor is Rs. 15,00,000, and the final expenses will be much higher than that. Similar cases treated at Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurugram had total expenses of Rs. 50,00,000. Himani belongs to a middle class family. She has a family of six members. Her father is a mediocre business, her mother is a home maker, her younger brother is studying, her elder sister is studying too and her grandmother lives with them. An expense of Rs. 50,00,000 is way beyond the capacity of a middle class family. They managed the expenses anyhow till now. Now for bone marrow transplant they need a hefty sum.
