My Story
Our worlds were unexpectedly shaken eight months ago when we lost Lisa’s Dad Geoff. Geoff had been diagnosed with cancer 5 years ago, but following successful treatment he travelled and enjoyed time at home and with family. It was so sudden to lose him last year. Now reunited with Lisa’s beautiful Mum Jacqueline, who we lost in 2009 to Leukaemia. On the morning of Geoff’s funeral the darkest of days happened when we lost Steve’s brother Dave, a wonderful brother/brother in law. Dave was just 51 with so much life to live when he lost his battle with mantle cell lymphoma - having endured so much treatment including a Stem cell transplant things seemed more stable and he was due to start back at work and do all the things he planned to do post cancer treatment. This cruel disease returned quickly and aggressively - that dreadful day just wasn’t meant to happen. Now reunited with his Dad Gordie, who we also lost to Cancer after a very short and sudden illness in 2017. There are no words that can convey our pain and loss of such special and loving family to such a terrible disease. Within our families memory we need to change the odds and put more into research for improved outcomes so that less loved ones and families have to suffer this unbearable heartache. We are not runners so Race for Life is a challenge for us but will be running the race in memory and to raise what money we can.
