My Story

I'm taking on CRUK's The Great Row as I decided I needed a challenge to focus on before I turn 40 in August. Growing old is a privilege denied to many including Jodie, a friend from school which is why I have decided to raise money for Cancer Research. Unable to participate in the Race for Life, I saw this challenge and thought it was something different for me to partake in especially as several think I won't manage it? In the last few years I have lost family, watched as close work friends and colleagues succumb to this vile disease. There is also someone who is a real inspiration to myself and many others, including a band of children, as she continues to battle this disease daily. Knowing that without previous research, her treatment and recovery last time would not have been possible so more research is needed to help fight new battles that she is now facing. We became friends purely by a shared interest and we are referred to as a "Cauldron of Witches",with our other two sidekicks who keep the menfolk and children in check within the organisation we help run. Watching what she has been through especially on what would have been Jodie's 40th gave me the kick to actually do something out of my comfort zone. Plus there are all the people who survive those challenges due to research. More money is needed to raise money to pay for scientists to be able to detect cancer sooner and be able to make medicines affordable to all. I will be doing the challenge at Impulse Belhus, over 5 separate 1/2 hour sessions before the end of the month. Last night was my first session in months there and based on my rowing average, I will cover it within the 5 sessions. After each session, I will take a picture to show the distance covered (as advised by the gym bloke last night). So dig deep and throw your pennies towards me completing this challenge...after all, I am the most unsporty person most of you know!! Devastating, 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. But advances in science have put cures within our grasp. Please support me by sponsoring me. Donating through this page is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with Cancer Research UK.
