My Story
Thank you for visiting my Cancer Research UK Cycle 300 page. This September, before the end of the month, I will complete 300 miles on my bike for Cancer Research UK. I want to raise money for life-saving research and help bring forward the day when all cancers are cured. Every penny makes a huge difference to vital cancer research so please show your support with a donation to my page. Cancer has severely affected my immediate family in recent years. I was diagnosed with Bladder Cancer in 2018; early treatment has enabled me to live with this with minimal inconvenience. But my wife Shirley was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in January 2019. She lost her fight on 7 April 2020. I am repeating my CRUK September Challenge to ride 300miles. I will start with a Welsh challenge to climb the 3 peaks of Snowdon, Cadair Idris (summit pic below) and Pen-y-fan but connecting the peaks by cycling to the mountain base. Whilst I have climbed each mountain several times, I intend to use routes that are unfamiliar to me. I completed on 4 Sep.This climb/ride has provided 400km (275ml) towards my challenge total in the first week. I then propose to ride a couple 200km Audax events to easily exceed the target. One reason for attempting the Welsh 3 Peaks was to complement my July ride/climb of the National 3 Peaks within 5 days, 40 yrs after I set a record of 41h 51 m for the 3Peaks Challenge for a solo unpaced sea level Caernarvon<>sea level Ft William attempt.
