Stephanie's Race for Life

I have decided to take the plunge and do something completely out of my comfort zone to help raise both money and awareness for all the important work cancer research does. In August 1998 I lost my Grandfather to cancer after a very short battle. Then almost a year later on 21 August 1999 at the age of 14 I lost my amazing Nan who was the second most amazing women in my life to breast cancer after years of fighting. She was like a second mum to me growing up. Spending all the holidays with her, my grandad and brother. After two deaths in such a short time to this horrible disease as a family we managed to steer clear of the dreaded C word and that was until May 2017 just days after my wedding we got the devastating news that the most amazing woman, my role model, my mum had stage 2 Hodgkin’s lymphoma, but this time we where lucky and after 6 rounds of chemo and 3 weeks of radiotherapy we got the news we hoped for and that was she was in remission. Right the way through her treatment even though it made her ill she was the warrior I always knew she was and still put us kids first to the point where she still had my 3 children while I went on honeymoon as she refused for me not to go. Life was all good until your fast forward to 2 August 2021 when my mum was hit with a second blow and this time around she had stage 4 Non Hodgkin’s lymphoma and right now she is going through intense chemo. She has already shown cancer who is boss once and I know she will do it again. So this is why i am doing the race for life because if my mum can got through this twice and still be positive then I can do an obstacle course to raise vital funds to continue with the amazing research this charity does.
