Everyone I have lost due to cancer in my family
My Story
Hello! My name is Sophie and I am an oncology DPhil student at the University of Oxford. Since I was younger, I have always been interested in cancer research and wanted to make a difference to the world! After my PhD I would like to work in a lab at a cancer research institute. Cancer is a word that I have known for a long time, there has always been someone in my family that has been suffering with this horrible disease. Most recently, my grandad passed away from AML in the covid pandemic. I am currently going through gene testing due to the high occurrence of cancer in my family history, so I know first hand the big decisions that come with this life changing disease. I have signed up to do this half marathon as a way to give back and do my part to donate to cancer research. The furthest I've ever ran is a very relaxed 10 km, so it is going to take a lot of work and effort. Any money that you can donate would mean the world to me and help motivate me to get the much needed training in! Thank you so much! Overall, cancer is happening right now, which is why I’m raising money right now for Cancer Research UK. There’s no time to lose! Donate to my page today and help bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.

CAUSE
All Cancer Types
Cancer is complex. There are over 200 types of cancer, most of which have different biology and behaviour. With your support, our dedicated researchers can continue to discover better ways to prevent, detect and treat this disease, and bring about a world where everybody lives longer, better lives, free from the fear of cancer.
