My Story
We are attempting the NC500 in Ford RS Turbos, these cars weren't the most reliable 40 years ago when they were new so we could be in for some challenges along the way. Please support our worthy cause and give what you are able to. Every penny raised will go to Cancer Research and will be distributed to wherever it is needed the most. (Not on our repair bills lol) Oh and wish us luck x Four (middle age-ish) blokes who up until 3 years ago didn't know one another have come together to form a firm friendship through the love of our classic Fords and the Classic Ford scene and are attempting to undertake the North Coast 500 commencing 1st June. The round trip from West Yorkshire and back is nearer 1,100 miles all together. Over the past 3 years we have been to countless car shows did our own version of the Lakes tour in 2023 and were lucky enough to have 2 of the cars at the NEC Classic car restoration show in 2023. Sadly one of they chaps (Andrew) lost his wife 3 years ago to breast cancer. Andrew dedicated his car to the memory of his wife and has called it the ‘Spirit of Jayne’. (See pictures below). Read some of Andrews story: On the we lost Jayne, my life changed forever, as did my outlook on life too. I realised life is precious and can be cut tragically short, so to hell with caution, time to live for today, not for a tomorrow that may never arrive. Jayne knew how much I wanted an RS Turbo Series 1, she didn’t really see the appeal herself but told me one day I could look to buy one – just not that day. (mortgage, stuff for the house and holidays were always top of the priority list). So, shortly after my heart was shattered the day Jayne left us, I made an emotional plea on the FB forums asking to be told of any for sale within my available budget. After much searching i made the decision and bought my forever car. It is the perfect way for me to keep Jayne’s spirit alive. Knowing she’d be smiling down seeing me finally realise my dream – yet cursing at how much an old Ford can cost. Every time I drive my Series 1 I’ll know she is with me on those open roads, right by my side. So whilst the DVLA just think of my old Escort as just a chassis number and registration plate, I will think of her as the “Spirit of Jayne” as she’ll be known to me.
