2022 Cardiff University Cardiff Half Marathon

Sun 2 Oct 2022 - Sun 2 Oct 2022

My Story

Alongside a group of Cardiff Uni FC alumni and friends we'll be running the Cardiff Half Marathon in memory of our late friend Ford Davis who passed away in April. Ford passed away from a very unfortunate form of lung cancer, caused by the mutation of the ALK gene. ALK-positive lung cancer occurs in approximately 5% of all lung cancer patients, and alarmingly occurs in approximately 30% of lung cancer patients under 40! It is strongly associated with a history of never smoking and is not thought to be a hereditary mutation. ALK-positive lung cancer is caused by a rearrangement of the ALK gene, but scientific research currently doesn't know why this rearrangement happens. We hope our fundraising can help fund research in this area to avoid more people suffering from this cruel, indiscriminate disease.
