My Story
Thank you for visiting my Cancer Research UK Cycle 300 page. This September, before the end of the month, I will complete 300 miles on my bike for Cancer Research UK. In January this year my daughter, Maddy, was diagnosed with Stage 4 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. At the end of June she received the wonderful news that, after three gruelling months of chemotherapy during the height of the COVID-19 lockdown, her cancer was in remission. Maddy wrote about her experience in The Guardian, here: https://tinyurl.com/yyk3h5fj Maddy was fortunate to be treated at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge, which is a leading centre for research into treatment for Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Her experience made us intensely aware of the difference that effective research can make. All the difference in the world. Unfortunately the COVID-19 pandemic has had a major impact on the progress of such research. Work in labs at universities around the world has had to be suspended for significant periods, and the continuing participation of PhD and Post Doc students in research programmes is threatened. Cancer Research UK is facing a funding shortfall of as much as a hundred and fifty million pounds this year - just when their support for research is most needed. Every penny makes a huge difference to keeping cancer research on track through the pandemic, so please show your support with a donation to my page.
