My Story

It’s a long time since I’ve raised money for charity. I’ve always felt uncomfortable about asking people to sponsor me to achieve a persnal goal. At the end of 2018 my younger sister discovered that she has breast cancer, so this has given me a very personal reason to think again. The research already done by Cancer Research, and other similar organisations, means that my sister has an excellent chance of a full recovery. I want to do what I can to improve the chances for others who are diagnosed with cancer in the future. My ‘thing’ is running. In 2017 I set myself the challenge of running the six Abbott World Marathon Majors. So far I have completed three; New York (Nov 2017) in 3:38:38 London (April 2018) in 3:35:45 Chicago (Nov 2018) in 3:24:12 I have three more to go. Tokyo. I’m entered into the Tokyo Marathon on March 3rd 2019. Flights are booked, hotel sorted and ready to go. The only problem is that I’m battling with a stress fracture in my left foot and can’t currently run. That said, I’m determined to be on the start line. Can I beat the time I got in Chicago? Berlin. I have a place to run on the 29th September 2019. It’s fast, it’s flat, and I’m looking forward to running it and hoping for a personal best. Boston. I have to qualify, meaning that I need a marathon time this year of less than 3:25:00 to have a chance of entering the race in April 2020. Once I have run Tokyo, Berlin & Boston I join a group of around only 4,000 people who have done so. I would love to have your encouragement and support to complete this challenge, and have the chance to raise some money for a cause that, out of the blue, has become really important to me.
