My Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my fundraising page. I am staging my second Shine 4 Cazi Fundraising Ball at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Nottingham on 18th November 2023. Its not long now and I have been working very hard to put together an amazing event for everyone to enjoy I want to say a massive thankyou to my wonderful friends Amy, Kirsten and Becky at Cancer Research UK who have been helping me. Guests attending the Ball will enjoy a Welcome Drink Reception, followed by a 3 Course Meal with tea and coffee, and during the evening, and will hear from Cancer Research UK about how, through supporting my Ball, they will be helping to bring forward the day when we beat Cancer and will see some of the incredibly inspiring new developments in treatments, get a glimpse of what taking part in Race for Life Pretty Muddy or Shine Walk events is like. Guests will be able to take part in our Raffle and have fun at the Live Auction or Silent Auction and snap up some incredible raffle prizes or Auction Lots. On the night I have secured a brilliant live band so guests will be able to dance the night away, Cazi loved to dance so I am sure she will be with us in spirit. So please do get in touch if you want to join us. I lost my beautiful wife and soulmate Cazi (Carol Farley) in 2013 to secondary Breast Cancer and since losing her I have dedicated myself to supporting Cancer Research UK in any way I can to help the Charity in its quest to bring forward the day when we beat Cancer so others don't have to face the journey my Cazi faced. Since 2013 I have taken part in 5 CRUK London Shine Marathons, the inaugural CRUK Leicester Shine Walk, the 100k London 2 Brighton Ultra Marathon and the 50K Thames Path Challenge Ultra Marathon to raise funds for CRUK, to date I have raised just over £32,000. After completing the Leicester Shine Walk I joined CRUK's Events team as a Volunteer and since 2019 I have Volunteered at lots of Events across our Region helping to deliver CRUK's very popular Race for Life, Pretty Muddy and Shine Walk Events which raise vital funds to support Cancer Research UK. As a Lead Event Volunteer I support around 22 Events annually including Race for Life, Pretty Muddy and the Charity's iconic Shine Walk Events in my role I often take on the role of Start or Finish Manager at Events across the whole of our Division as well as annually supporting the Incredible London Shine Walk Event its fantastic being able to support these Events after having taken part in some many over the years. I also support the Charity in many other ways including having been a member of the Volunteer Insight Panel to help shape and develop future plans, Campaigning to support various national campaigns, and encouraging people to support the Charity through sharing my story at a number of Inspire Events. I have been fortunate to meet some of the CRUK's Research Scientists and see first hand the absolutely amazing work they are doing and this inspires me to continue to do everything I can to support the Charity and gives me confidence that we will beat Cancer. Supporting my Shine 4 Cazi Fundraising Ball 2023 will help ensure that the vital research continues so please support me.

CAUSE

Breast cancer

With almost 140 women diagnosed every day, breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK. And, although rarer, around 350 men are also diagnosed with breast cancer every year. The good news is more than two-thirds of women now survive 20 years or more. Help Cancer Research UK find new ways to diagnose and treat the disease.
