My Story
I am proud to be doing Race For Life as part of Heather's Mates team - for my indomitable Calendar colleague and pal Heather Clark who is currently being treated for & living with ovarian cancer. But this year, RFL is more important and relevant to me as between August and Dec last year, I had my own brush with cancer. On 1st August - appropriately Yorkshire Day and while holidaying in America - I was diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer. There are different types and thankfully mine was `one of the best cancers to have' (now that's a bizare phrase to digest) and one of the most treatable with a very high cure rate. After NHS surgery and further treatment, I was given the all clear six days before Christmas. Apart from a turkey neck, I am back to my old self! I have been very lucky and I know that, trust me. However, with over one in two of us expected to get cancer in our lifetime, research is more vital than ever. So when I trot around the RFL route on June 4, each step will be for those loved ones I have lost through cancer, but it is also for my cherished ones who are living with cancer today. Thank you for donating whatever you are able to. xx Donating through this page is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with Cancer Research UK.
