I'm taking part in the Race for Life to raise money for Cancer Research UK - a charity currently very close to our hearts.
My Story
Cancer is happening right now in our lives. When Bernie was first diagnosed with a cancer called mesothelioma in January 2018, it came as a complete shock to us and since then life has never been the same - we constantly live in the shadow of this disease. Following intense chemo and radiotherapy last year, we enjoyed a short period of stability, but by October all the signs indicated that the cancer cells had started growing again and that second stage chemo would be of little benefit to Bernie. In February this year, Bernie started a clinical trial with Cancer Research UK. The provision and care he is being given is absolutely amazing and experiencing it first hand makes you realise how vital charities like Cancer Research UK are both for Bernie now and for others in the future.

Cancer is complex. There are over 200 types of cancer, most of which have different biology and behaviour. With your support, our dedicated researchers can continue to discover better ways to prevent, detect and treat this disease, and bring about a world where everybody lives longer, better lives, free from the fear of cancer.
