We are taking part in Race for Life to raise money to beat cancer sooner

My Story

Hiya everyone. This year, Leah and I are taking part in Race For Life. We are doing it in memory of my Auntie Vicki and my Nanny June. I am very excited as it is something I have always wanted to do and I am so proud to have Leah by my side, doing it with me. Those who know Leah, know just how big her heart is and she also loved her Nan Nan (Nanny June) very much. So once I explained what Race For Life is, where the money that is raised goes, all the amazing work the scientists have done and can continue to do with support from us all... there was no talking her out of it! (The fact that we will be dressing up in bright pink is just a bonus for her! Haha) OUR STORY We sadly lost my Nan (Leahs Nan Nan) at the age of 87, in January 2018. She was an amazing woman who was much loved and admired by all her friends and family. Since the mid 1960s right up until she passed, she non stop raised money for charities. She kept working full time as a medical secretary right up until she was 83 so she could afford to travel everywhere to raise all the money she did. She was even organising something from her hospital bed 3 weeks before she left us all. We lost my auntie Vicki also in January but in 2009 at the age of 52. Like many others, she was taken far too young. She was so strong and fought for as long as she could. Later in her life she found she had a skill for archery and was dedicated to this. She became so good she was approaching Olympic standard and could well have gone on to achieve that. Both of them are very much missed by us all and we would be so very proud to raise some money for Cancer Research in their names. Our target is £150. It would be great if we got that but we would also be grateful for whatever you can give. Even £1 would be gratefully received. Our hope is to jog the 5k. However those of you who know and understand my medical problems will already know... we will just have to see how I am on the day! Lol Leah may just have to give me a piggy back. Haha! Either way... We will be crossing the finish line together :) We would also like to invite, friends and family who would like to come and support us and cheer us on, on the day! Leah and I would love to have you there and to have the support would be amazing! Hopefully the weather will be nice enough to head back to Mums after for a BBQ! 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Every single pound you donate makes a difference to Cancer Research UK’s groundbreaking work Thank you all Lots of love Leah and Shannon xxxx
