Thanks for taking the time to visit our fundraising page. Cancer is happening right now, which is why we as a family are fundraising right now for Cancer Research UK. There’s no time to lose! Please donate to our page today and help bring forward the day when all Cancers are cured. I, Shamilla Mirza underwent surgery after discovering a small lump in my breast in 2015. My diagnosis came at a time when me and my family were still grieving after the death of my father, who had died three months earlier from a brain haemorrhage. After being referred to a breast clinic by my GP, I had a mastectomy and breast reconstruction followed by chemotherapy treatment at North Manchester General Hospital and The Christie. Research into cancer is the key to changing lives now and in the future. Without it I simply wouldn’t be here. As a family we now want to raise money to help others going through cancer and help make a difference in peoples lives. The ‘Re-Write Cancer’ campaign is a £20million joint fundraising appeal from Cancer Research UK, The Christie Charitable Fund and The University of Manchester, which aims to meet the cost of a new £150million cancer research facility. The new building will bring together the largest concentration of scientists, doctors and nurses in Europe to collaborate and accelerate progress for cancer patients. Due to open in 2022, the building will be twice the size of the Paterson building which was extensively damaged by fire in 2017.
CAUSE
Manchester Fire Appeal
Following the fire at the Cancer Research UK (CRUK) Manchester Institute in April 2017, Cancer Research UK has joined together with the largest single-site cancer treatment centre in Europe, the Christie, and the University of Manchester to build a world-class cancer research facility on the site of the destroyed Paterson Building. This partnership expands on the existing one between these organisations. The new research facility will bring together the entire spectrum of cancer research – from discovery through to prevention, early detection, survivorship and living with cancer.
