My Story
When I established the South College Running Club in September 2023, my goal was always to grow the club to a point where it could start making a positive impact. This event marks one of our initial endeavours, with hopes for many more in the future. Like many who participate in such events, we've all been affected by cancer, either through our own experiences or those of our loved ones. My personal motivation for running stems from the memory of my great-grandfather and the care my Nan provided him during his terminal illness. Not only did my Nan care for her father, but she also took care of me, balancing school runs with hospital visits. She is truly an extraordinary woman. Despite my young age at the time, I cherish memories of my great-grandfather, like the steam train he gave me that ran on lighter fuel, or how he would sneakily pass me his pots of ice cream or hide yoghurts the hospital gave him for me during my visits with Nan. His influence still lingers in our family home, evident in the worn CBeebies stickers on the bottom of old furniture. Before becoming President of SCRC, I hadn't taken up running. The community I have found along the way is amazing. It's hard to envision my university experience without the presence of my beloved running club or the activity itself. Now, I find myself consistently hooked on Strava. I am looking forward to getting stuck into this and I couldn't have asked for a better group to do this with. We are all looking forward to getting silly and raising as much as we can SCRC on Top
