My Story

My beloved mum passed away last year on Friday 16th September 2016, 3 weeks short of what would have been her 70th birthday. As many of you know mum was full of life and always lived it to the fullest! She made people smile where ever she went. She was simply amazing! She was a brilliant mother and fantastic grandmother to 3 lucky and rather spoilt grandchildren! Unfortunately, in March 2015 she was diagnosed with an aggressive form of tongue cancer. She had a lifesaving operation in April 2015 and intensive radiotherapy for 6 weeks on a daily basis. She suffered immensely with the side effects of the operation and latent radiotherapy effects. This changed her and all of us but still she had her wicked sense of humor and tried to live her life within the limitations of her treatment. We all thought she was over the worst of it and could see light at the end of the tunnel. In June 2016 she was again diagnosed with lung and breast cancer. We were all devastated for her, and for ourselves. In the end, she also had tumors on her face, lower arms and legs. She persevered like the soldier that she was and went from going on public transport into London for her last Rath Yatra (religious festival) in Trafalgar Square to being bed ridden and unable to write within the space of 6 weeks. The suffering was all too much and finally god opened the gates to his house and welcomed her in s he did not have to bravely face another day of her cancer. The loss that we have suffered is beyond words but her love and teachings will guide us throughout our life. We hope that she is proud of us when she looks down on us. Everyday, I mourn the loss of my best friend and still wonder why cancer took her? I will never get the answer but it’s through events like this that one day, and I hope its soon, that scientists can find the answer and eradicate this this awful disease. Doing this will be hard for me, not just because I’m unfit but because this day is in the middle of her 1st year death anniversary and her birthday. At least this is a fitting way to honor the most incredible person I know. Cancer is an indiscriminate disease which affects the recipient and their families, so please donate whatever you can, big or small in mum's memory - it all helps!
