In memory of

Sue Hiley

My Story

Last year I lost my lovely Aunt Sue Hiley to Cancer. I am doing this in her memory, as she fought really hard to win her battle but sadly it was too late for her, and she has left a massive hole in our lives. I also have a very good friend suffering with Breast Cancer, and another with a brain tumour. On 19th October 2016 I myself was diagnosed with Stage 4 Ovarian Cancer, which hit me like a bolt out of the blue, especially as I'd been on a health and fitness journey for the previous 8 months! I'm just grateful that I was in fairly good shape both physically and mentally to fight this horrible disease. So far I've undergone chemo, had major surgery on 9 Jan 2016, and I restarted my next cycle of chemo on 3 Feb 2017. Having Cancer is a life-changing experience, but I'm forever hopeful as there are advances being made all the time, and I feel very lucky that my prognosis is fairly good. At present I can't train in the way I want, and I really don't enjoy walking, however signing up to this challenge, I hope, will help me to focus and get out there and DO something to help fund life-saving research. At the time of signing up, I had not had my surgery, and a slight setback post-op has meant my recovery has been a little slower than I'd hoped. I've also accepted that on my weekly chemo days I may not be able to manage the full 10,000 steps purely due to time and logistics. However what I can promise you is that I WILL do 310,000 steps EVEN IF I don't quite manage to complete them in March. I have to be realistic and understand that there may be days I'm just not physically able to do them, but I hope that won't deter you from sponsoring me, and I promise to really try and rise to the challenge, and push myself for this worthy cause. If you feel able to, I'd really appreciate your donation to spur me on. So... this March I’m going to attempt to walk 10,000 steps a day throughout the month to help beat cancer sooner. It really doesn't matter how little you donate, even the price of a coffee will make a difference, and I will be eternally grateful, as will anyone else facing this disease. Help me Walk All Over Cancer and fund life-saving research by sponsoring me. Donating through this page is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with Cancer Research UK. I really can't express enough how grateful I am to you, just for reading this, and considering a donation. THANK YOU! With Love Sarah xxx
