I was diagnosed with a rare skin cancer (anal cancer) in March ’18. It was a huge shock as I’d been feeling well and getting on with life as normal. I only had one symptom which was sadly misdiagnosed. So when my cancer was found it had already progressed to Stage 3. I completed a gruelling 6 weeks of radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Treatment was horrible but it was effective because in September 2018, I was told my tumour had gone and there was no evidence of disease. I am now officially in remission YAY! but this comes with its own challenges. I am still dealing with long term side effects of treatment as well as the ongoing anxiety that regular check-ups and scans bring. I will need clear check-ups for 4 years before I can say I am cured. Its been a very surreal 12 months but I am so grateful to Cancer Research and the NHS for making advances in the treatment for this cancer. Ongoing research means all cancer patients have the two things they want the most, OPTIONS and HOPE. Thank you for donating. Sarah X
